Can anyone tell me of their experience with Kindle-Select? I could delete the e-book purchase option from my website AND avoid publishing with B&N (nook), but I don't want to come out in the negative. It's bad enough we have to wait 60 days to get paid, but what do you experienced authors (w/Kindle Select) think? Is it worth the "sacrifices"?

Thanks!

My webmaster has had a real challenge getting the format whereby references can be used in my recent book, but guess what? So, Kindle--so it appears--is NOT suitable for scientific texts, that's the bottom line. So instead, I'm giving the readers the option of getting the 434 references in my book sent to them, if they wish. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi Jessie, and thanks for the feedback. We did not design our notepad for the Fire. I think Amazon can issue a refund for the purchase if you contact them. So sorry for the inconvenience!

Why would any school or library supported by tax revenues purchase anything from Amazon? Amazon refuses to collect state and local taxes. Amazon threatens to pull out of any state that asks them to. Amazon has spent millions of dollars in court battles to avoid collecting the local taxes that go to support schools and libraries. Better to stick to a vendor that supports local communities with jobs and tax dollars. Barnes & Noble and Nooks come to mind for an excellent alternative.

Here's one editorial stating the case.

Hi Dian, I would say the keyboard is a stretch for writing two pages of text, but it could be done. The keyboard is there mainly to annotate as you suggest, and to create text as needed to use the web browser. Good luck!

I want to use a tablet of some kind for my middles school students who are failing English (those are the only students I teach and i have one class of four students and one of six. I want to find a tablet, preferably Kindle for all the reasons Kindle is a superior reading tool, with a keyboard on which students could create two pages of text, or even a page would be great. I'm pretty terrible with electronics, so I can't quite figure out if the new keyboard kindle can do that or if the keyboard is just for writing short annotations within books.

Hi Mark, there are a number of teachers and librarians who have shared their experiences on the EduKindle Ning at www.edukindle.ning.com. If you search around a bit there, you will find many ideas and practices addressing the issues you mention. --Will
